World Travel Holdings is seeking a Software Engineering Manager with proven expertise managing an ecommerce team and platform, along with deep full-stack and backend technology experience. In this remote role, you will be responsible for helping to build a high performing team of engineers and lead this team to deliver product with quality, timeliness, and scalability. From conception to deployment, you will collaborate with Product Managers and other Engineering teams to ensure the development work aligns with our mission of delivering a remarkable experience to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Run a team that maintains and extends our ecommerce platforms both mobile and desktop
  • Attract, mentor, and manage engineers, meet with them regularly to ensure they are meeting their goals, and support their career growth
  • Work closely with product managers and your team to prioritize stories, get them estimated, scheduled for sprints, and keep them on track for delivery
  • Collaborate with other teams to plan, communicate, and execute smooth release of upcoming projects
  • Make the most use of logging data from our systems to provide the team with insight about how our ecommerce engine is running while ensuring smooth operations and data driven prioritization decisions across the platform
  • Help develop strategies and set technical direction for our ecommerce platform
  • Maintain system and data security at a high standard ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the websites are not compromised
  • Deliver on excellent platform uptime guarantees and act as the higher-level escalation contact for the platform
  • Adhere to industry best practice coding standards, and make certain all code developed at World Travel Holdings is free from bugs and security vulnerabilities such as those defined and published by OWASP

Qualifications

  • Education: MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or BS and commensurate work experience
  • Experience: At least 3 years of management experience within an Agile environment to include performance reviews, coaching, running daily operations, holding team accountable to deliverables, etc. for an ecommerce development team. Current development team experience in a Java based environment required
  • Technical: Hands-on experience with standard frameworks and technologies such as: Java, Spring Framework/Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, Microservices, JPA/Hibernate, Oracle, SQL, page templating, caching, content management systems, HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, Elasticsearch, Kibana, React, Responsive web.
  • Business web application experience: Experience working on business applications such as e-commerce, CRM, CMS, and web applications. You understand the technology stack in a web application using modern software languages from Javascript to REST to databases
  • Business acumen: Know-how to weigh the risk and value to our customer. You are quick to learn the business and can grow into an effective resource and liaison to our ecommerce Product Managers and other engineering teams
  • Solutions-oriented: An eye for detail with strong logical and critical thinking skills. Must possess the ability to analyze a situation for potential future problems
  • Communication: Amazing communicator both written and verbal. You have a proven track record of facilitating team discussions for design, development, or production troubleshooting and ensuring the team moves forward to complete action items. Your success communicating proposed features showcases your ability to listen and learn from your peers and team
  • Collaborative: Ability to excel working in a team environment complemented by a strong work ethic that takes accountability and produces results
