  • Overview

    As a backend developer you will design, develop, and maintain our web-based software and infrastructure. The ideal candidate has experience working on large scale consumer websites with scalability, performance and reliability. You enjoy wearing multiple hats and want to work on not just our consumer site, but our API and admin tools. You are someone that is self-motivated and wants to help build out the technical infrastructure for a young, fast-growing startup.

    Responsibilities

    • Participate in the full SDLC process from product design and documentation to architectural design, implementation, testing and maintenance
    • Spend about 80% on development and about 20% on operations to include being on call, improving existing infrastructure, refactoring code, and upgrading platforms
    • Triage new user issues, determine how critical a potential new issue is, and troubleshoot effectively
    • Research, recommend, and implement any required improvements (application level, infrastructure level) based on business requirements and current best practices
    • Develop new features and fix bugs in existing functionality

    Qualifications

    • 5 years of direct experience with backend development in PHP and at least one of the major frameworks such as Zend, Symfony, Laravel, etc. Symfony2 is a big plus!
    • Experience working on an application which includes a publicly accessible HTTP API and/or providing 3rd party widgets
    • Experience with agile and test driven development processes and tools such as git, Jira, Redmine, Bugzilla, and Jenkins
    • Experience with various data storage technologies, both SQL and NoSQL, specifically PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Solr, and Elastic Search
    • Experience with Linux-based server infrastructure in AWS, knowledge of Linux command line and have experience debugging issues both in application code and server level
    • Experience with Javascript (node, jquery, react) and Python
    • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
